Your rank on each way of life will influence how easy or difficult it is to befriend other officers, how fast or slow that friendship decays, what titles you can unlock, which then determine what sort of strategy cards will drop and which secret plans you can interact.
Way of Life (or whatever it's called now) is deeply integrated into gameplay rather than just being a useless collection of titles. Mostly just pointless filler, but it's nice for immersive/rp purposes. You'll constantly get small events with your friend officers as you build bond rank. Officer relation and interaction is actually good. Still busy all the time, and when get some added perks when being named strategist or marshal, like interjecting during council phase or giving lower ranked officers orders in battle. Officer Mode is basically ruler mode, just without the ability to freely invade whoever you want whenever you want. There is always something to be done each turn to work towards the next invasion, unlike past games where you often have dead turns just hitting end turn.
